Moscow authorities have begun preparations to replace couriers with robotic delivery services. The capital has already presented mobile complexes that could potentially take over part of the logistics.
The development is being carried out jointly with major technology companies, including Yandex. The robots are designed to move along sidewalks and residential areas at a speed of 3 to 5 km/h, which makes them comparable to pedestrian traffic and reduces risks to others.
The head of the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Oleg Baranov, confirmed that the project is already undergoing practical development.
Together with the Moscow government and such large organizations, we are doing a lot of work... Safety issues are currently being worked out.
Robots must correctly respond to pedestrians, transport and urban infrastructure. Algorithms for movement and interaction with road users are being tested separately. The timing of mass implementation has not yet been disclosed, but the testing of technologies has already moved to the practical stage.
