Russian authorities are not considering initiatives to completely ban VPN services. Discussions of such measures are not currently underway, according to Anton Gorelkin, First Deputy Chairman of the Information Policy Committee.
The deputy explained that VPNs are actively used by companies to protect data and securely transmit traffic. A complete ban on the tool would create risks for business and slow down digital development.
This tool is actively used, and nothing better has been invented in the business environment. Therefore, a ban on VPN services would have an extremely negative impact on the development of the digital economy.
The parliamentarian clarified that "targeted work" concerns services that provide access to prohibited content. Roskomnadzor will continue to operate in this mode.
