Rosatom to build a 2400 MW nuclear power plant in Vietnam

On March 23, during the visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Moscow, Russia and Vietnam signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Ninh Thuan-1 nuclear power plant.

The document was signed by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Minister-Head of the Government Office of Vietnam Tran Van Son. The ceremony was held in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Vietnamese counterpart.

For us, this is not just an agreement on the construction of two nuclear power units. We see it as the basis for a long-term industrial partnership that will mean strengthening Vietnam's energy independence and new opportunities for economic growth.
Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom

The agreement establishes the rules for joint work. It is planned to build two power units of the Russian project with VVER-1200 reactors. Their total capacity will be 2400 MW. The already operating units No. 1 and No. 2 of the Leningrad NPP-2 were chosen as a model.

Now the project has a full legal basis. The document also sets the direction of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation in nuclear energy for many years to come.
