India moves away from Russia in the development of a 6th generation fighter

The focus is on cooperation with Germany and France, or the UK, Italy and Japan

India is preparing to cooperate with one of the European aerospace consortia in the development of a sixth-generation fighter. This was announced by the Defense Committee of the lower house of the republic's parliament.

One of India's likely partners could be a consortium that includes the UK, Italy and Japan, or another with the participation of Germany and France. There is no mention of Russia's participation in the project.

It should be noted that the news looks resonant against the background of the long-term dominance of Russian combat aircraft in the skies of India. Since 1996, the Republic has been purchasing and assembling Su-30 fighters under license.

In addition, the Indian media reported on the likely purchase of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters, and the parties are at the consultation stage. There is a risk that the parliament's decision on the 6th generation calls into question the long-term bet on Russian platforms.

Nevertheless, Russia still retains its leadership in the supply of weapons to India.
