Rostec Installed DVOR 2000/DME/N 2700 Radio Beacons at Makhachkala Airport

The equipment improves landing approach in mountainous terrain and replaces satellites in case of failures

The Rostec State Corporation announced the upgrade of the navigation infrastructure at Makhachkala Airport. The equipment was supplied by the subsidiary company Azimuth. The DVOR 2000/DME/N 2700 model helps aircraft navigate in flight and accurately approach landing.

The system is especially useful in the mountains. Alexey Galchenkov, Deputy General Director of Azimuth, explained that satellite communication is often unstable in the highlands. The radio beacon forms a reliable signal when GPS fails. This allows pilots to build the optimal descent path. This is critical for Makhachkala: on one side of the airport there are mountains, on the other side there is the Caspian Sea.

Galchenkov added that such beacons are already used in the airports of Vladikavkaz, Gelendzhik, Yerevan and several other cities in the Caucasus. Rostec offers customers a line of Russian equipment for the modernization of airfields. All equipment is adapted to work in difficult weather and terrain conditions.
