Russia Resumes Tungsten Purchases from the US After Two Years

The volume of purchases amounted to 5 thousand dollars

In January 2026, Russia resumed importing tungsten from the US for the first time in more than two years. Information about the purchase appeared in the database of the American Statistical Service.

At the end of the month, Russian companies purchased metal for 5 thousand dollars. The last time deliveries were recorded was in August 2023 — then the import volume amounted to 2.5 thousand dollars.

Russia's share in the export structure of this metal from the United States was less than 1%. The specific company is not specified.

It should be noted that tungsten is used in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and the production of hard alloys. The material is used where parts operate at high temperatures and loads.

For example, the Center for Collective Use "Siberian Ring Source of Photons" (SKIF) created new wear-resistant coatings for mining equipment parts using tungsten. Their service life will increase fourfold.
