The news item was updated at 15:36 on 25.03.2026. Russian company IT Imperial became the first in the country to present a humanoid robot with a telemetry system based on virtual reality. The presentation took place at the Tekhprosvet VKontakte technology festival.
The robot copies the operator's movements in real time. A person wearing VR goggles sees the surrounding space through a panoramic camera with a 360-degree view. IT Imperial Deputy CEO Anna Bagdasaryan explained that the solution became Russia's first example of telemetry with real-time transmission of a spherical video stream. She noted that the operator gains the ability to visually monitor the situation here and now without being physically close to the device.
In addition to remote control, the developers implemented an autonomous navigation module. The system does not require a constant internet connection: the robot builds its route independently, recognizes obstacles, and adjusts its movement path. If an emergency situation arises, the operator can take over control through the VR interface.
We combine this navigation technology with telemetry so that during navigation it is possible to connect robot control via virtual reality and take over in dangerous moments.
The IT Imperial platform is built on the open Robot Operating System 2 standard. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices: from humanoid platforms to robot dogs. Integration does not require extensive hardware redesign: it is enough to install a telemetry software module and configure a communication channel with the operator station.
Commercial inquiries have already been received for the development. According to Anna Bagdasaryan, major distributors have shown interest in the large-scale implementation of the solution in their product lines.
Added. An inaccuracy was made in the article. The first company in Russia to develop, patent, and implement a system for remotely controlling a robot through a virtual reality headset was OOO "ROBOT" (the developer of the "Adam" robot line).
