Tula developers have created a line of "Dovod" drones with alternative navigation based on machine vision — the drones are capable of autonomously delivering cargo and launching strikes without operator involvement, TASS was told at the People's Front.
The chief designer of the "Ovod" family, Andrey Ivanov, explained the principle of operation: the drone simultaneously captures about 300 points on the ground and uses them as reference points for navigation. This allows the drone to operate in conditions of GPS signal suppression.
"Dovod" is part of the "Ovod" family, which includes several modifications: "Ovod" radio-controlled drones, "Provod" fiber-optic drones, the "Provodnik" airborne repeater, and "Dovod" autonomous drones with machine vision.
Production is carried out by a large Russian private enterprise with about 200 employees. The Kulibin Club of the People's Front provides support to the developers.
Heavy cargo drones of the "Baba Yaga" type — multi-rotor drones with a lifting capacity of 5 to 20 kilograms — have become one of the most demanded classes of equipment on the front line. They are used to deliver ammunition and equipment to hard-to-reach positions, as well as to drop ammunition.
The integration of machine vision into a cargo drone is a response to the main vulnerability of modern drones: electronic warfare and GPS jamming.
