The Safe Period for Human Presence on the Moon Has Been Named

Current technologies cannot ensure a long stay on Earth's satellite

The safe period for a human to stay on the Moon will be only a few weeks. This was stated by the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov.

According to him, Russia is only exploring near-Earth space. At the International Space Station (ISS), located 400 kilometers from Earth, astronauts can live for a year.

On the Moon, with current technologies, the safe period for a human to stay will be reduced to several weeks.

Humans can only dream of flights into deep space. This is due to technical limitations, Bakanov explained.

What is holding back space exploration

For space missions within the Solar System and beyond, humans need to solve a number of fundamental problems. Firstly, ensure the safety of flights for astronauts, since prolonged weightlessness causes muscle atrophy and loss of bone density. Secondly, it is necessary to create high-speed rocket engines. Thirdly, closed life support systems should be developed that can operate without human intervention.

In the coming years, Russia will explore the Moon and Venus. The launch of the Luna-26 and Venera-D missions are scheduled for 2028 and 2036, respectively.
