The Max messenger sends requests to Apple and Google servers to check the delivery of push notifications - this is a necessary measure for the correct operation of the service, the press service of the messenger told RIA Novosti. The reason for the comment was a wave of accusations of spying on VPN users.

The press service explained that requests to Apple and Google servers are necessary to check the delivery of push notifications: in difficult network conditions and with restrictions on mobile communications in certain regions, correct notification operation is impossible without them.

The messenger explained that all the technical solutions used are aimed at ensuring the quality of calls and notifications and have nothing to do with users' personal data or the fact that they use VPN. The messenger does not send requests to WhatsApp and Telegram servers, the company said.

Earlier, technical specialists conducted studies of messenger clients on Android and iOS. An analysis of the traffic of the Android version, published on Habr, revealed requests to Telegram and WhatsApp servers, the collection of the device's external IP address, and the transfer of the VPN activity flag to the application's servers. A similar picture on the iPhone was recorded by AppleInsider: a built-in privacy report showed dozens of requests to the servers of both blocked services per week - without any technical integration with them.

After these publications, update 26.7.1 was released, in which sending requests to Telegram and WhatsApp was disabled, the article on Habr notes. However, the module code itself was not removed from the application.
