Testing has begun on alkaline nickel-cadmium batteries produced by the Saratov Battery Plant on the newest Moskva-2026 metro cars assembled at the Mytishchi plant of Transmashholding. The 55KGL125P model batteries must confirm their reliability over a distance of 30,000 kilometers under real operating conditions.
These batteries are true long-livers: their standard service life is 10 years, which is four times longer than the lifespan of lead-acid batteries.
The electrodes are not subject to corrosion or destruction, and the depth of discharge does not affect the mechanical strength of the electrodes. The 55KGL125P batteries are resistant to extreme modes, restore operability after deep discharges and short-term short circuits. There is no need to replace the electrolyte throughout the entire service life.
Thanks to their high reliability and long service life, the costs of purchasing and replacing such batteries over the life cycle are minimal. The 55KGL125P batteries have already been included in the register of Russian industrial products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Over the next two years, the Moscow Metro will receive 700 new cars of the Moskva-2026 series. It is alkaline nickel-cadmium batteries that remain the preferred choice for metros around the world, as the most reliable and durable among commercially available systems.
