India expects to acquire at least 40 Russian fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jets, local media reported. The Sohu portal found out how much this deal will cost.
According to sources, this is a $7 billion deal, or $175 million for one fighter jet. For comparison, this is much cheaper than the French Rafales, which were offered to India at $240 million per aircraft.
Russian stealth fighters are praised for their multifunctionality, powerful armament, and maneuverability. Russia, meanwhile, is offering preferential terms, which will be a blow to the West's reputation, especially France's, after the public fiasco of the Rafale in the India-Pakistan conflict, Sohu added.
Western media claimed that France refused to open access to the Rafale source code for India. This factor may play in favor of choosing the procurement of the Su-57, for which Russia is offering not only full technology transfer, but also localization of production in India.
