Yuri Chernichuk, Director of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), stated that all power units of the plant must undergo a licensing procedure according to Russian requirements by January 1, 2028. The licenses confirm the possibility of safe operation of the equipment for the next ten years.
Rostekhnadzor issued the first license for the operation of power unit No. 1 in December 2025, the second — for unit No. 2 — on February 18, 2026. According to Chernichuk, it is planned to obtain a permit for the operation of unit No. 6 by the end of this year, and the remaining ones — No. 3, 4 and 5 — will be licensed in 2027.
The Director of ZNPP noted that obtaining licenses will not lead to changes in the work of personnel, but creates legal conditions for a possible adjustment of the operating mode in the future. Any change will be possible only if all safety requirements and license conditions are fully met.
The Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, near the city of Energodar. In October 2022, the plant became the property of Russia. Since April 2024, all six units have been in "cold shutdown" mode.
