Crews of two Il-38 medium-range anti-submarine aircraft took part in maneuvers over Avacha Bay off the coast of Kamchatka. This was reported in the press service of the Pacific Fleet.

The pilots practiced searching for mock enemy submarines using hydroacoustic systems. The exercises were conducted without the use of ground-based radar navigation equipment.

The Il-38 flew along a given route without landmarks. Military pilots received information from guard ships located in the northeast of the country.

About the Il-38 aircraft

The Il-38 was developed by specialists from the Ilyushin OKB-240. It is based on the design of the Il-18V passenger aircraft for long-haul 2nd class airlines. It is designed for naval reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, as well as the installation of minefields.

The Il-38 is a carrier of tactical nuclear weapons. The aircraft were assembled from 1967 to 1972. They are in service with the Russian Navy and the Indian Navy.
