On February 10, 2026, a turboprop An-24 aircraft, operating a medical flight on the route Irkutsk — Bodaibo, experienced a failure of one of its engines in flight. The crew promptly decided to divert to a reserve airfield — the landing was uneventful and without casualties.
According to the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, during the flight, the pilots reported to the dispatchers about the shutdown of one engine. Due to difficult weather conditions at Bodaibo airport (snowfall, cloudy, air temperature around –11 °C), the crew decided to land at the alternate airport Nizhneangarsk (Republic of Buryatia). The plane landed at 13:45 local time (08:45 Moscow time) normally, without damage or threat to the people on board.
The Baikal-Angara and Baikal transport prosecutor's offices immediately organized an investigation into the aviation incident. Experts are выясняют the exact causes of the engine failure and оценивают the actions of the crew and the technical condition of the aircraft.
An-24 is traditionally considered one of the most reliable machines for regional and medical transportation in the conditions of Siberia and the Far East. The design of the aircraft allows it to confidently continue the flight and perform a safe landing even with one AI-24 engine operating (with a capacity of 2550 hp each), which was demonstrated in this situation.
