A batch of Su-57 fighter jets with upgraded defense systems capable of detecting threats and suppressing incoming missiles was delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces. The publication "Reporter" explained exactly which new protection mechanisms were introduced into the updated aircraft.
The Su-57 is equipped with the 101KS-U module, which provides all-aspect coverage in the ultraviolet spectrum. This system tracks the operation of jet engines on aircraft and missiles, identifies sources of threats, and transmits information to the control system.
The information received is used to cue the 101KS-O module, which is responsible for active countermeasures.
The 101KS-O module is equipped with infrared-range cameras and a laser jamming system. It acts on missile seeker heads, reducing their guidance accuracy. The equipment is installed behind the pilot's cockpit and in the lower part of the fuselage.
The new sensors provide all-round space monitoring, early attack detection, and automatic selection of protective means. This increases the aircraft's survivability when carrying out combat missions and reduces the risk of being hit within the operational zone of air defense systems.
