The Russian Aerospace Forces have received a batch of Su-57 fighters with advanced defense systems capable of detecting threats and suppressing missiles on approach. The Reporter publication described exactly which new protection mechanisms have been implemented in the updated aircraft.
The Su-57 is equipped with a 101KS-U module, which provides an overview in the ultraviolet spectrum in all directions. This complex monitors the operation of jet engines of aircraft and missiles, identifies sources of threats and transmits information to the control system.
The information received is used to guide the 101KS-O module, which is responsible for active counteraction.
The 101KS-O module is equipped with infrared cameras and a laser suppression system. It affects the homing heads of missiles, reducing the accuracy of their guidance. The equipment is located behind the pilot's cockpit and in the lower part of the fuselage.
New sensors provide all-round space control, early detection of attacks and automatic selection of protective equipment. This increases the survivability of the aircraft when performing combat missions and reduces the risk of being hit in the area of operation of air defense systems.
