Sevmash, a Severodvinsk enterprise part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), has successfully shipped the second thrust bearing for the universal nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad" of Project 22220. The parts are manufactured under a contract with the Baltic Shipyard USC, which acts as the main customer.
The Sevmash design bureau developed the design of the main thrust bearing specifically for vessels of this type. In addition, the shipyard's specialists created a comprehensive program for testing. The dimensions of the product are impressive: the height reaches 2.5 meters, and the total weight in assembled form is about 25 tons. According to the company, these are some of the largest and most complex technical products in the entire history of Sevmash.
To equip one icebreaker, a set of three bearings is required. The first specimen was delivered to St. Petersburg at the end of 2025. The third bearing has already passed all stages of bench tests and is in the final stage of assembly. In the coming weeks, it will also be sent to the customer, which will complete the delivery of the entire set for the "Leningrad".
Project 22220 is a series of universal nuclear icebreakers designed to provide navigation in Arctic waters.
