A video has appeared online showing the 125 mm gun barrel of a T-72B3 tank glowing hot after firing in a thermal imaging sight. The recording was made in the fighting compartment using the video viewing device of the Sosna-U sight of another tank of the same type.
The footage shows the barrel of the main gun glowing with a bright thermal outline after a series of shots. Filming was carried out during the crew's combat operations.
The footage embodies the temperature load on the artillery system during intensive firing.
At present, thermal imaging sights are installed on virtually all modern Russian tanks. Such equipment is fitted to the T-72B3, T-80BVM, and upgraded T-62M.
The image from the gunner's sight is duplicated on the commander's screen, who, if necessary, takes control of the main armament.
For example, the T-90M Proryv tank is equipped with two independent thermal imaging channels, which increases the accuracy of the 125 mm gun, as well as the coaxial 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns.
