In St. Petersburg, a native of the Lviv Region put up for sale parts of an RD-33 engine from a MiG-29 fighter jet. The crime was stopped by officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) for the Leningrad Region, Telegram channel "78" reports.
The agency stated that the engines are subject to export control and belong to military and dual-use products.
The FSB opened a criminal case under the article on the illegal export or transfer of goods, technologies, armaments, or military equipment; the investigation is ongoing.
RD-33 engines are still produced at the V. V. Chernyshev Machine-Building Enterprise in Moscow, as well as at ODK-Klimov in St. Petersburg.
Earlier, in June 2025, in Russia authorities also stopped the smuggling of spare parts for Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters worth more than 400 million rubles. These components would have been enough to repair at least four such aircraft.
