Assistant robots will help the capital's doctors perform 5,000 cancer surgeries

Deputy Mayor Anastasia Rakova spoke about new possibilities in surgery

In 2026, Moscow cancer centers plan to perform about 5,000 surgeries using assistant robots. This was reported by Moscow Deputy Mayor for Healthcare Anastasia Rakova.

Robot-assisted surgery has already become common practice in Moscow cancer centers. If in 2020 we performed 1,000 such operations, then in 2025 — already 4,200, and for 2026 nearly 5,000 are planned.

According to her, 15 robotic systems are operating within Moscow's oncology care system. Surgical robots do not replace physicians, but serve as ultra-precise instruments there, significantly increasing the effectiveness of surgical interventions.

Moscow has five multidisciplinary oncology centers based at the Botkin, Loginov, and Yudin hospitals, Hospital No. 62, and Kommunarka. The integration of outpatient and inpatient services allows patients to move more quickly through all stages of treatment within a single medical organization. The Moscow Cancer Registry (MGKR) was also created, integrated into EMIAS, which combines all information about the patient's journey — from the moment a disease is suspected to follow-up monitoring.
