With a lifting capacity of 6 tons: testing of the Narval crane completed in Murmansk

Three specialized SMM handling machines with a 32 m outreach ensure reliable operation in the conditions of the Far North

Specialists from the shipbuilding company SMM have completed comprehensive testing of the third portal crane of the Narval series, installed at the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port. As the company's press service reported, the equipment successfully passed all stages of inspection and is ready for full-scale operation.

The Narval crane is a fundamentally new development in Russian crane engineering, created specifically for operating conditions in fishing ports. Unlike universal handling machines, the model takes into account the specifics of working with fish products: variable cargo weight, the need for rapid replacement of gripping devices, and increased reliability requirements in an aggressive marine environment.

The key technical parameters of the handler include a maximum boom outreach of 32 meters while maintaining a lifting capacity of 6 tons across the entire operating range. The designers paid special attention to load distribution on the port infrastructure: thanks to the optimized design of the frame and travel bogie, the specific load on the quay structure does not exceed 20 tons per support wheel. This solution makes it possible to operate the crane on existing berths without reinforcing them.

The first two cranes of the Narval series, previously delivered to the Murmansk fishing port, confirmed their stated characteristics under real operating conditions.

Let us recall that three cranes of this series are already operating in the port of Murmansk. Their commissioning significantly increased the terminal's throughput capacity and expanded the volume of work performed.
