Over 348,000 Groups and Channels Blocked on Telegram in a Single Day

Nearly 4 Million Communities Closed in the Messenger Since the Beginning of 2026

On Thursday, Telegram blocked 348,620 groups and channels, the second-highest single-day blocking figure this year, after January 1, when 542,994 communities were closed.

Since the beginning of 2026, 3,957,198 groups and channels have been blocked in the messenger, including 12,278 related to terrorism.

Telegram notes that moderation since 2015 has been based on user complaints and "proactive monitoring" using machine learning, and since the beginning of 2024, artificial intelligence-based tools have been added.

The messenger was created in 2013 by Pavel Durov and has more than 1 billion active users per month.
