Commissioning: First Unit of Kursk NPP-2 to Enter Pilot Operation in 2026

Rosatom Reports Completion of Key Construction Stages and Start of Commissioning Operations

The State Corporation Rosatom has confirmed plans to launch the first power unit of Kursk NPP-2 into pilot industrial operation in 2026. This was announced by the organization's Director General Alexey Likhachev, noting that commissioning works have already begun at the station.

According to him, construction and installation works at the site are being completed at an accelerated pace, and the station's team is demonstrating high efficiency and professionalism. The head of Rosatom called the efforts of builders and operational personnel a "feat," emphasizing the significance of the project for the development of the country's nuclear energy.

Likhachev also reminded that in addition to Kursk NPP-2, active work is underway at other key sites — Primorskaya, Kola, and Smolensk NPPs. Furthermore, preparations are ongoing for the construction of the third and fourth power units at Kursk NPP, which indicates a large-scale program of modernization and expansion of nuclear generation in Russia.
