Key to saving "Admiral Kuznetsov": 110 million rubles will be spent on modeling the lifting of the PD-50 floating dock

The work will be carried out by the Admiral S.O. Makarov University of Marine and River Fleet

The State University of Marine and River Fleet named after Admiral S.O. Makarov will perform mathematical modeling and strength calculations for lifting the PD-50 floating dock in the Kola Bay. The customer of the work is JSC "Lenmorniiproekt", the parties plan to conclude a contract for a maximum amount of 110 million rubles.

The University will participate as part of a collective application together with the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, as well as the companies "Port Control" and "MIB Design-SPb".

The project covers calculations of the deformed state of the PD-50 structures, modeling of the lifting stages, and risk assessment during work in the Kola Bay.

The contractor will also provide technical support during the approval of the results in the Administration of the Seaports of the Western Arctic, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and the relevant structures of the Russian Navy. The government has appointed "Lenmorniiproekt" as the lead developer of all documentation for the lifting of the dock, which sank in 2018.

Floating dock PD-50

As a reminder, the accident at PD-50 occurred on October 30, 2018, during the exit of the only Russian aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" from the dock after repairs. The preliminary cause of the emergency was a power outage. Due to the fall of the crane, the hull and deck of the cruiser were damaged.

The cost of all work to raise the floating dock from the bottom was estimated at 840 million rubles. Without PD-50, further repairs to the "Admiral Kuznetsov" are impossible.
