In 2025, Russian Railways (RZD) updated its locomotive fleet, the holding's press service reported.
The traction rolling stock fleet of Russian Railways was replenished with 258 electric locomotives and 141 diesel locomotives.
As part of the railway transport fleet renewal, 162 new ES5K Ermak freight locomotives of various designs were also received. Russian Railways also purchased 84 units of the 2ES6 and 3ES6 Sinara series and one 3ES8 Malachite locomotive.
For driving passenger trains, 4 EP1M electric locomotives, 7 EP2K electric locomotives and 9 TEP70BS diesel locomotives were sent to the railways.
In addition, in 2025, Russian Railways acquired 51 mainline freight diesel locomotives of the 3TE28 and 2TE25KM series, as well as 81 TEM18DM shunting locomotives. These steps are aimed at improving the quality of services and increasing the capacity of the railway network.
