The Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Andrey Nikitin, announced plans for a significant expansion of the country's seaport infrastructure. According to him, the total throughput capacity of port terminals will increase by 56 million tons as early as 2026. Simultaneously, navigation conditions on inland waterways will be improved, which will increase the efficiency of cargo transportation by rivers and canals.
Nikitin also noted that the modernization of railway ranges will continue in the coming years, along with the active development of the Northern Sea Route as a key transport corridor.
As part of the implementation of the national project "Efficient Transport System," the total increase in the capacity of seaports from 2025 to 2030 will amount to 225 million tons. The largest growth is projected in the eastern direction — up to 420.3 million tons (+115 million tons by 2030). The ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin will increase their throughput capacity by 38.6 million tons (up to 485.1 million tons), the northwestern terminals — by 66.2 million tons (up to 589.3 million tons), and the sections of the "North — South" transport corridor — by 5.3 million tons (up to 24.3 million tons).
These measures are aimed at ensuring sustainable growth of export-oriented industries and increasing the competitiveness of the Russian transport system at the international level.
