The shortage of aircraft on domestic routes in Russia in 2026 will continue to worsen. This alarming forecast was shared by Executive Director of the Association of Tour Operators (ATOR), Maya Lomidze.
According to her, the aircraft fleet is hardly being updated. But so far, the shortage is not critical and does not affect the number of flights.
It may only be one of the factors in pricing. At the same time, there has been no decrease in passenger traffic over the past two years.
In December 2025, it became known that the airline AZUR air will reduce its staff by at least 20% due to the aging of the existing aircraft fleet. The carrier will graduallydecommission 2-3 aircraft during the year.
Economist Dmitry Semenov noted that domestic enterprises in the aviation industry are capable of providing airlines with aircraft of domestic production. However, this will not happen as quickly as one would like - the process may take 5-10 years.
