Defence blog: Two Buk-M2E SAM systems destroyed in Venezuela in US strike

The Venezuelan Armed Forces had 12 SAM systems supplied by Russia, but only 5 of them were in working order

The airbase named after Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda and the Higuerote airport were attacked by the United States on the night of January 3. At least two Buk-M2E anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) were destroyed. This was reported by Defence blog, citing local TV channel VTV.

In the VTV video, the Buk-M2E launcher is destroyed by a direct hit. Fragments of anti-aircraft missiles are visible, which were not launched before the strike.

What the West says about Venezuela's air defense

Defence blog, citing sources, claims that Venezuela's air defense system was in a deplorable state. This was due to maintenance problems and a shortage of spare parts due to Russia's failure to fulfill its obligations.

Venezuela had 12 Buk-M2E SAM systems, but only 5 of them were in working order. A similar situation developed with the maintenance of the S-300V systems.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the US strike on Venezuela, calling it an act of aggression against an independent state. The Russian Embassy in Caracas is in contact with the Venezuelan authorities, the ministry concluded.
