Russia has begun developing the first national standard that will define safety requirements and control methods for high-speed electric trains. According to Anton Shalaev, head of Rosstandart, the document is planned to be approved in September 2026.
According to Shalaev, the creation of this GOST will be a key stage in the development of domestic high-speed railways. Work is also underway on another 45 standards that will cover various aspects of the design, production, and operation of such trains. These documents create a unified regulatory framework for a new transport industry that did not previously exist in Russia.
The first domestically assembled high-speed electric train should appear as early as 2027 — when it will be sent for certification. According to Vladimir Potatuev, a representative of the Sinara Group, serial deliveries will begin in 2028. The trains will run on the new line between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
HSR-1 will pass through the territories of Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, as well as the Leningrad, Novgorod, and Tver regions. After launch, the journey time between Moscow and St. Petersburg will be reduced to two hours and 15 minutes.
