Indian authorities have asked refineries (refineries) to submit weekly reports on purchases of Russian and American oil. According to Reuters, information about this came from five sources in the oil industry and government.
The request was made by the Ministry of Petroleum through the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC). According to officials, the data is needed for representatives of the cabinet of ministers, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
One of the sources noted that it is important to receive up-to-date and accurate information about oil from Russia and the United States in order to provide verified figures when Washington requests data.
It is worth noting that this reporting practice is being introduced for the first time, which indicates the government's growing focus on controlling oil purchases.
In the coming months, there may be a reduction in imports of Russian oil, which, according to preliminary forecasts, will not exceed 1 million barrels per day.
Since 2022, India has taken one of the leading positions among buyers of Russian oil. On August 6, 2025, the US authorities introduced additional duties of 25% against Delhi due to the purchase of petroleum products from the Russian Federation.
