Another option for protecting tanks from attack drones has appeared in Russia. Specialists have developed a folding additional protection structure that covers the upper projection of the hull and turret.
The solution is based on a vertical стойка ( стойка ) installed in a special "стакан" ( стакан ) on the turret. It houses поворотные кронштейны ( поворотные кронштейны ), to which the bow, stern, and transverse rods with a protective net are attached.
In the combat position, the structure is fully deployed and covers the tank from above and from the sides. In the stowed position, the rods rotate around the axis of the стойка ( стойка ), reducing the horizontal dimensions of the vehicle, which is important during movement and transportation.
The key feature is the quick transition from combat to stowed position and back without dismantling. The height of the structure does not change, but the tank becomes narrower, which reduces the risk of snagging and simplifies maneuvers.
As a result of the innovations, the drone or dropped device either detonates at a distance from the armor or bounces off the elastic net outside the hull. This dramatically reduces damage to the turret roof, upper glacis plate, and side projections.
