BMW X5 Returns to Russia — But Only as Leftovers

Avtotor is completing the assembly of 2022 crossovers using the remaining vehicle kits

Kaliningrad-based automaker Avtotor has received vehicle type approval (OTTS) for four modifications of the BMW X5 crossover. The list includes versions X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive30d, X5 xDrive25d, and X5 xDrive40d — with gasoline and diesel power plants.

This involves completing the assembly of models from vehicle kits remaining in the warehouse after the German concern left the Russian market in 2022. The "Supplier of assembly kits and its address" field in the documents indicates a dash, which confirms the absence of official import of new kits from BMW.

Despite the cars being assembled in 2025, the vehicle passports (PTS) indicate 2022 as the year of manufacture. At the same time, the mileage of the cars is zero, and the technical condition corresponds to new cars.

This is not the first attempt by Avtotor to use the remaining vehicle kits: previously, the company had already produced a limited batch of BMW X5s from the same stocks. The resumption of assembly underscores the plant's desire to maximize the use of available resources in the absence of an official brand presence in the Russian market.
