The rescue tugboat "Mikhail Chekov" (Project 22870), built at the Astrakhan Shipyard, has been transferred to the Russian Navy. The ceremony took place in Kaspiysk, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
The Project 22870 vessel was developed by the Vympel Design Bureau. "Mikhail Chekov" is the seventh in the series; the first tugboat was transferred to the Russian fleet back in 2014.
What "Mikhail Chekov" is intended for:
- assistance to emergency ships
- crew evacuation
- fire extinguishing
- towing of a vessel
- supporting a damaged ship afloat
- operations at depths up to 60 m
- collection of oil products
- conducting underwater search operations
