Mikhail Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, explained why the environmental levy on tires is increasing in Russia. According to him, it will affect carcinogenically hazardous tires and will help reduce the volume of such products on the domestic market.
The eco-collection rate will increase for market participants who only sell carcinogenically hazardous tires that have an excess of PAHs and require special, more technologically complex processing. We are confident that the introduction of an increased environmental levy on carcinogenically hazardous tires will reduce the volume of these products on the market.
According to him, the introduction of an increased levy will help improve environmental safety.
The ministry has approved a project revising the calculation of the base rate of the environmental levy, which will apply to tires for passenger cars, motorcycles, ATVs, buses and trucks. The changes primarily concern carcinogenically hazardous tires.
Yurin also noted the high-tech development of the tire industry in Russia, in which manufacturers are able to create products from bicycle tires to aircraft tires. Despite the departure of foreign companies in 2022, domestic businesses continue to maintain jobs and production facilities, he added.
