KMZ Completes Design and Development of Propulsion Systems for Arctic and Coastal Vessels

The plant is preparing prototypes of rudder propellers for certification and serial production

The Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) has completed the development of Russian electric rudder propellers (ERRP) with a capacity of 0.2 to 3.5 MW for small and medium-tonnage fleet. The project is being implemented within the framework of an agreement with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and is aimed at import substitution of marine component equipment.

The technical design stage of the 2 MW ERRP has already been completed. In parallel, work is underway on a technical project and working design documentation for a 3 MW column with an Arc5 ice class.

The new ERRPs are designed for operation in harsh marine conditions, including ice areas, and can be installed on emergency rescue, auxiliary, research, passenger and special vessels.

The use of domestic columns increases the maneuverability of ships, simplifies the layout of power plants and reduces operating costs. The immediate plans include the manufacture of prototypes, bench and certification tests, as well as the preparation of products for mass production.
