The EMKA2 shunting hybrid contact-battery DC electric locomotive has been certified after testing. This was reported in the press service of Transmashholding (TMH).
This is the first time such a locomotive has been created in Russian machine building.
The EMKA2 shunting contact-battery DC electric locomotive is a significant achievement of domestic science and technology.
The electric locomotive is equipped with an on-board energy storage device. This allows it to move a train weighing up to 2,000 tons up to 14 km without connecting to the contact network. Without a "trailer," the EMKA2 is capable of covering a distance of 100 kilometers.
The speed of the electric locomotive is 90 km/h. The machine's power when operating from the network is 500 kW, and from the battery – 300 kW.
The locomotive is made from domestic components. Unlike traditional diesel counterparts, the EMKA2 hybrid scheme ensures operation at stations and in densely populated areas with minimal environmental impact.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the domestic EMKA2 electric locomotive passed the first stage of testing.
