The ЭМКА2 shunting hybrid contact-battery DC electric locomotive has been certified after testing. This was reported in the press service of Transmashholding (TMH).

This is the first time such a locomotive has been created in Russian mechanical engineering.

The ЭМКА2 shunting contact-battery DC electric locomotive is a significant achievement of domestic science and technology.

The electric locomotive is equipped with an on-board energy storage device. This allows it to move a train weighing up to 2 thousand tons up to 14 km without connecting to the contact network. Without a "trailer", the ЭМКА2 is capable of covering a distance of 100 kilometers.

The speed of the electric locomotive is 90 km/h. The power of the machine when operating from the network is 500 kW, from the battery – 300 kW.

The locomotive is made from domestic components. Unlike traditional diesel counterparts, the hybrid scheme of the ЭМКА2 ensures operation at stations and in densely populated areas with minimal environmental impact.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the domestic electric locomotive ЭМКА2 passed the first stage of testing.
