Specialists from the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) were already working on a preliminary design for a prospective long-range aviation complex (PAK DA) in the 1990s. This was stated by Vladimir Buznitsky, former Deputy Director of the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec).
According to him, in terms of its layout, it looked like the American tactical strike aircraft like the F-117. However, the takeoff weight was planned to be greater.
I think if it had gone ahead, it wouldn't have been before 1995. In any case, the plant was eager. The takeoff weight is about the same as that of the Tu-22M (about 112 tons), which is just right for us.
It should be noted that Russia is also currently developing the PAK DA program, the design of which was completed in 2019. Preliminary, the bomber may receive engines with AL‑51F technologies for the Su‑57.
