Russia Loses Ground in Ranking of World's Largest Car Markets

Russian car market drops to 12th place in global ranking

Russia is no longer among the top ten countries in terms of car sales. As of November, the Russian car market ranked 12th globally, according to Sergey Tselikov, head of Avtostat.

China remains the world leader in new car sales, despite an 8% drop in sales in November. The United States and India rank second and third, respectively. While sales in the American market also decreased by 8%, the Indian car market showed impressive growth of 19%. Japan and Germany ranked fourth and fifth. In these countries, 369.7 thousand and 250.7 thousand cars were sold in November, respectively.

Russia is in 12th place with 127.9 thousand new cars sold. Canada is in 10th place with 142 thousand cars sold in November, and France is in 11th place with 133 thousand cars that found owners.

In the Russian market, Lada remains the leading domestic brand. AvtoVAZ sold 27,416 cars in November. The most popular foreign brand was the Chinese Haval, which increased its sales by 16% compared to October. 18,000 cars assembled near Tula were sold.
