The Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant (SNSZ) in St. Petersburg will build at least 20-30 more Project 12700 Alexandrite-class minesweepers. These plans were announced by Igor Mukhametshin, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy for Armaments.
According to him, the series will be continued as part of the ship construction program until 2036-2050.
These ships will serve on all our four fleets and on the Caspian Flotilla.
At the same time, the equipment of Project 12700 ships will be improved. For example, advanced weapons are now being installed on the new Alexandrites.
About Project 12700
The project was developed by specialists from the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau for the Russian Navy. The ship's displacement is 890 tons, its speed is 16.5 knots, and it can accommodate a crew of 44 people. The ship is equipped with remotely controlled and autonomous unmanned vehicles that help sailors fight minefields.
