«Ready for implementation at stations»: The EMKA2 shunting electric locomotive has completed testing

EMKA2 is designed to operate at stations where the use of diesel engines is undesirable

The contact-battery (hybrid) shunting EMKA2 will be "put" on rails in 2027. This was announced at the V Congress of Young Scientists in Sirius.

The EMKA2 electric locomotive is designed to operate in depots and at passenger stations of large stations, where the use of diesel engines is undesirable from an environmental point of view. It can also be operated at industrial enterprises.

EMKA2 operates both from the contact network and from the on-board energy storage device. The locomotive is equipped with a standard 3 kV current collector, thanks to which it can be charged while moving and while parked.

In the absence of connection to the network, the storage device and traction system allow a train weighing up to 2000 tons to be carried over a distance of up to 14 km. At the same time, the electric locomotive can independently travel up to 100 km without a train, using power from its batteries.

The locomotive's speed is 90 km/h. It is equipped with an asynchronous DTA-125 engine. EMKA2 is one of the key industrial achievements of 2025.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that fully unmanned trams will appear in the Russian Federation in the next two years.

"The First Technical" is the industry information partner of the V Congress of Young Scientists, which takes place from November 26 to 28, 2025 on the federal territory of Sirius. This is the central event of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia.
