New "Ornithologist" Software Helps Protect Russian "Orlan-10" Drones from Attacks

Unique domestic system recognizes all types of enemy drones

The Russian military has implemented new software to protect drones, capable of recognizing any enemy drones in the air. This was announced by the head of the UAV calculation "Orlan-10", Guards Lieutenant Mikhail Kolyaskin, in a video published by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The program helps keep reconnaissance "birds" in the air. Previously, when it did not exist, drones were shot down, and the calculation could not prepare for enemy strikes in advance.

Thanks to the new software, operators now know in advance where enemy drones are located. The program is a proprietary secret development and received the call sign "Ornithologist" because it can recognize all types of "birds."

The software is integrated with the "Orlan-10" complex, which has already proven its effectiveness in field tests. This drone is capable of staying in the air for up to 18 hours, developing a speed of 75 to 170 km/h, rising to a height of up to 5 km, and performing missions at a distance of up to 120 km from the control station. In combination with artillery, the "Orlan-10" adjusts fire, ensuring the accuracy of strikes and support for offensive actions.

The reconnaissance data collected by drones in real time helps artillerymen quickly clarify priorities and make decisions on the battlefield, the Russian Ministry of Defense noted.
