Earlier, a foreign newspaper, citing sources in the French government, stated that Niger had allegedly concluded an agreement with Russia to sell yellowcake. French journalists claim that the uranium concentrate was produced by Orano at its former Arlit mine.

Nuclear energy plays an important role in shaping the energy balance in the future. And uranium is one of the main resources for ensuring the energy transition, the press service summarized.

In the summer of 2024, the Niger authorities revoked the permit from the French company Orano to operate the Imouraren uranium mine. According to Le Monde, France covered 15% of its uranium needs thanks to Niger.
