Россияне смогут увидеть самое близкое полнолуние года 5 ноября

The Moon will approach Earth at a distance of 356,832 km and will appear slightly larger and brighter than usual

Residents of Russia will be able to observe a rare astronomical phenomenon, a supermoon, on November 5. On this day, the Earth's natural satellite will be in its full phase and will approach our planet at the minimum distance in 2025, 356,832 kilometers. This was announced by Lyudmila Koshman, an astronomer at the Moscow Planetarium.

The term "supermoon" is not scientific. It is used by astronomy enthusiasts when a full moon occurs near the perigee, the point in the orbit where the Moon is closest to our planet. Visually, the satellite's disk appears approximately 13% larger than at the apogee, the farthest point in the orbit. However, the human eye hardly notices this difference, the specialist emphasized.

The full moon phase will occur on November 5 at 16:20 Moscow time, and already on the night of November 6, at 01:30, the Moon will reach perigee. The difference between these moments will be only 9 hours 10 minutes, which is the minimum interval in the year. That is why the November full moon is considered a supermoon.

The October full moon, which is expected on October 7, does not belong to such phenomena: the distance to the Moon will then be almost 359,818 kilometers, and the time gap between the full moon and perigee will be more than 33 hours. Another large full moon will occur in December, but it will also be slightly further away, by 129 kilometers.

A supermoon is a rare opportunity to see the Earth's natural satellite a little larger and brighter than usual. Such events attract the attention not only of astronomers, but also of photographers, as they allow you to take spectacular pictures of the night sky.
