Indian scientists will for the first time use a Russian Il-76 aircraft to directly deliver research equipment to Antarctica.
The Il-76 cargo plane has a large payload capacity and the ability to land on frozen Antarctic runways thanks to special low-pressure tires.
The flight will take place as part of a scientific mission to study atmospheric and climate changes. The Il-76 cargo plane, equipped with advanced scientific equipment, will travel to the Indian research bases Bharati and Maitri. On board will be 18 tons of humanitarian aid, including medicines, food, equipment and essential items for station personnel.
Until now, equipment and research teams were delivered to the continent by sea, often under the management of foreign vessels, but lengthy delays in obtaining permits, as well as problems with the reliability of maritime transport, have become a serious challenge for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research of India.
Earlier www1.ru reported that maintenance and repair of aircraft brake discs for MC-21 and Superjet 100 will be established at enterprises in Russia.
