The T-90M tank will remain in service with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for at least another 10-15 years. This was announced by Colonel-General Sergei Mayev, former head of the Main Armored Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The potential for modernization is enormous; as a result of modernization, including the introduction of artificial intelligence, the crew size will gradually decrease to two, possibly one person, but in any case, it will not become completely unmanned.
The modernization of the tank includes the mandatory introduction of a fire control system. This will increase its combat effectiveness. Special attention will also be paid to improving protection against drones.
In addition to the T-90M tank of various modifications, T-72 and T-80 tanks will continue to be operated.
Technical characteristics of the T-90M tank to date:
- Combat weight — 48 t.
- Crew — 3 people.
- Dynamic protection — «Реликт».
- Main armament — 125-mm smoothbore gun 2А46М-5.
- Ammunition load — 40 rounds, of which 22 are stored in the autoloader.
- Road speed — up to 70 km/h.
- Cruising range on the highway — up to 550 km.
