AvtoVAZ May Launch Production of New Lada Models at Former Nissan Plant in St. Petersburg

The plant is currently producing Lada Iskra, but they are not planning to stop there

AvtoVAZ is considering expanding the range of cars assembled at the plant in St. Petersburg. The serial production of the new Lada Iskra model has already started there, but the company may receive other projects in the future.

Company President Maxim Sokolov emphasized that it is about developing on its own technological platforms. Plans for the development of the project in St. Petersburg include other models, he said.

The final decision will depend on the situation on the market: the demand for new cars in Russia continues to decline, and the plant in Togliatti will switch to a four-day work schedule from the end of September.

Despite temporary restrictions, the capacity of the St. Petersburg site allows for the assembly of a large number of cars. Previously, XCite crossovers were produced here, but their production has been stopped. Experts do not rule out that after the market stabilizes, Lada Azimut crossovers or a promising minivan on the Lada Vesta platform may start to be assembled here.
