The number of car thefts is observed in Russia. From January to August 2025, their number increased by 6%. This was reported to journalists at the VSK Insurance House.
Thieves are most often attracted to Hyundai and Kia, which account for 17% of all registered theft cases. In Russia, these cars are now produced under the Solaris brand. Third place belongs to the Japanese Lexus. Its share among thefts is 14%.
The domestic Lada, which is among the leaders in terms of the number of new cars purchased in Russia, ranks fourth in the theft rating - 11%. It is followed by Toyota and Mitsubishi - 8%. In last place is Mercedes-Benz – 5.7%.
In the category of models, the leader among stolen cars was the Lexus LX, which was chosen by 8% of car thieves. It is noteworthy that the demand for Chinese cars is also growing, their share in the structure of thefts has increased from 3% to 8.5%. The most frequently stolen cars are Chery and LiXiang brands, each of which accounts for 3% of the total number of thefts in 2025.
Geography of thefts: Moscow in first place
Among the regions, Moscow still ranks first in terms of the number of thefts, accounting for 28% of all insurance cases. St. Petersburg is in second place with 20%, and the Krasnodar Territory is in third place with 11%. Dagestan, which was previously in the top three, is now in fourth place, losing ground to Tatarstan and the Kemerovo Region.
