Ahead of Schedule: Rosatom Completes Welding of Pipeline at Tianwan NPP in China Ahead of Schedule

Specialists performed heat treatment, non-destructive testing, and monitoring of welded joints, ensuring the reliability of the structure

At power unit No. 8 of the Tianwan NPP in Jiangsu Province, China, specialists from Rosatom's Machine-Building Division completed the welding of the main circulation pipeline, a key element of the reactor plant, ahead of schedule.

Work on power unit No. 8, which is being built with the support of Rosatom, was carried out under the supervision of the Scientific Production Association "Central Research Institute of Machine Building Technology" (NPO "CNIITMASH"). Welding of the main circulation pipeline, which connects the reactor vessel, steam generators, and pumps, was carried out in compliance with strict quality standards. Specialists performed heat treatment, non-destructive testing, and monitoring of welded joints, ensuring the reliability of the structure. This stage was completed ahead of schedule, which will speed up further work at the facility.

In parallel, cold and hot running-in of the reactor plant began at power unit No. 7 of the Tianwan NPP. This process includes testing equipment in conditions close to operating conditions, without the use of nuclear fuel. According to Fedor Zuev, project manager at NPO "CNIITMASH", this stage confirms the readiness of the systems for safe operation.

Cold and hot running-in is a key stage when we actually "revive" the power unit. Each parameter, each operating mode of the equipment is checked in conditions as close as possible to operating conditions, but without the use of nuclear fuel. This is a comprehensive exam for all systems of the unit, confirming their readiness for safe and reliable operation for decades to come.
Fedor Zuev, project manager at NPO "CNIITMASH"

The Tianwan NPP is one of the largest Russian-Chinese cooperation projects in the energy sector. Power units No. 7 and No. 8, which are being built with the participation of Rosatom, should strengthen the energy infrastructure of the region.
