Specialists have completed the installation of the first tier of the internal containment structure (ICS) of the reactor building at the under-construction power unit No. 3 of Leningrad NPP-2. This operation became a key construction milestone in 2025.
The installation of the structure, 10 meters high and 44 meters in diameter, weighing 227 tons, took eight hours. Preparations for the work took several months, using the experience of building previous power units. The ICS ensures the tightness of the reactor building and is one of the main safety systems. In the near future, the tier will be welded to the horizontal cladding, and cable penetrations for pipelines and electrical cables will be laid.
Together with the general contractor, we carefully worked out all stages of the upcoming operation, and also used the experience of constructing the previous two units in terms of engineering solutions. As a result, the complex technological lift at power unit No. 3 was carried out efficiently, and the lower tier of the ICS with equipment, with a total weight of 227 tons, was installed in its regular place safely and with pinpoint accuracy.
According to Konstantin Khudyakov, Director of the program of JSC "Concern TITAN-2", the work was completed on time, and this year the construction of an external containment structure will begin to protect the reactor from external influences.
Leningrad NPP-2 is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". Power unit No. 3 with a VVER-1200 reactor is being built to ensure a stable power supply to the region. The next stages of construction include further assembly of protective systems and preparation for the unit's commissioning.
