A flare of the penultimate power class was recorded on the Sun on the night of September 7. This was reported at the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).
According to the institute, on September 7 at 01:15 Moscow time, a M1.2 flare lasting 10 minutes occurred in sunspot group 4207 (N28W16).
Solar flares are classified according to the power of X-ray radiation from A to X, with each subsequent letter indicating a tenfold increase in power. Such flares can be accompanied by plasma ejections, which, when reaching Earth, cause magnetic storms.
Over the past day, the geomagnetic situation remained disturbed with weak storms, and flare activity was moderately increased, but did not pose a threat to Earth. For the next day, a stabilizing slightly disturbed geomagnetic situation and moderately increased flare activity without risks to the planet are predicted.
